- How did you get involved with writing fan fiction?
Well, I first got involved in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer fandom back in 1999. Discovered Harry Potter around the end of 2003, I guess, and started writing in early 2004.
- What story was the most fun to write? Which was the most challenging and why?
I've enjoyed writing all of them. Some were ideas that wouldn't go away. Some were challenges that had me fretting, which I enjoy. Some were fun treats for my readers. Others were just spur of the moment inspiration.
The most challenging would probably have been "She Smiles for Me", which is told from the POV of a stalker who is never named. I did a little research so I could make sure my character's voice was accurate (scarily, it was pretty much dead on!) and he took over for a couple of hours. Any of the darker, psychological ones are a bit challenging because I tend to write by letting the character take over to tell their story, which can sometimes be weird if writing something more mentally twisty. On another level, "A Small Step" was challenging in regards to my wanting to capture the emotion and dynamic of the Trio in a difficult situation where magic did nothing (i.e. Hermione having breast cancer).
- Who is your favorite Harry Potter character and why?
Hermione Granger. Gah, I don't know why! She's bossy, opinionated, meddlesome, overly emotional in stressful situations, stubborn, insecure, and quite annoying at times. She's also loyal, smart, willing to do anything for someone she cares about, brave, and complex. I enjoy exploring the many facets we glimpse in canon and fleshing her out depending on various possible ways the future could go, regardless of whether it's a gen fic, a romance, smut, or something darker.
- Where are you from and tell us something interesting about where you live?
I'm from Ft. Worth, Texas. Uh, interesting? Hmm...it's called the 'Town Where the West Began'.
- What advice would you give other writers?
Well, I'd say to just enjoy what you do. Fanfic is meant to be fun and you have to be happy with what you're doing. Feedback is great and having people read your fic is wonderful, of course, but always remember that you're writing for yourself and have fun with it. If you're happy, who cares about anything else? *shrug*
- What is your favorite food and would which famous person (non-HP) would you most like to share it with?
Tacos, Jason Issacs (I don't count him as HP as I've adored him for years prior to the films!)
- If you were trapped in a cupboard with a Harry Potter character who would it be and what pick up line would you use on them?
Hmm...Fred and George *cheats* and I'd probably just volunteer to test any of their products they'd like *gets bunnied*
- Which is your favorite Harry Potter book?
Hmmm...Probably Goblet of Fire, though I also enjoyed parts of HBP. I liked the progression of GOF and I really enjoyed the Hermione/Viktor relationship and the fact we got to see a bit more of Hermione as something more than just "the brains" so to speak. I did mention being a Hermione fangirl, yes? *grin* I also liked the darker tone and the return of Voldemort.
- Do you think we're completely mental?
Who? We're all a little crazy sometimes, aren't we? *grin*
- What was the most shocking moment of the HP series?
Nothing actually comes to mind. I mean, most of the "surprise" moments were somewhat predicted as I read and nothing is jumping out in my mind at the moment. It wasn't shocking, but I enjoyed the depth that the Rita/Hermione sub-plot gave since it showed a hint of ruthlessness/protection of Harry that was again shown briefly in OOTP with Umbridge. Tom Riddle being Voldemort wasn't so much shocking as "Ooooh, nifty!"
- If you could ask JKR one thing what would it be?
Are there contraception charms in the Wizarding world? *innocent* Seriously, maybe what house Kingsley was in just because I'm curious about odd little things.
- Who is your role model?
I don't really have one, sorry.
- How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?
I'm still suffering from jet lag and you expect to answer this? Pshaw!
- What three things would you take with you to a deserted island?
The complete Hercule Poirot collection, a laptop with endless battery supply, and a comfy pillow
- Which HP character would do the best on Survivor and why?
Well, Sirius probably would if not for the whole being in the Veil/dead thing. Bellatrix Lestrange is pretty resourceful and tough, plus scary enough that people might fear voting her off.
- What is the defining moment in the characterization of your favorite character?
Geesh. These questions make me think! *whine* First thing that comes to mind is COS when Hermione still manages to give Harry and Ron a clue about the Basilik even as she's being petrified. Don't know why, but this really speaks a lot about her, to me. Finding the answers, brave, loyal, and willing to do what is necessary to help those she loves. *is sappy*
- What inspires you to write?
Anything and everything. The stories demand that I write them. Characters don't leave me alone until I tell their story. I see a pretty sunset and get inspired. One of my readers makes a request that makes a bunny. I can't sleep and get an idea. Etc. Etc.
- If you could choose Harry's fate what would it be?
Well, surviving would be at the top of the list. Other than that, mostly that he'd have a good life with someone who loves him for him and not his name/reputation and that he's surrounded by good friends. The poor boy deserves some happiness.
- Which character is the hardest for you to write?
Hmm. There are quite a few I've never written. I'd say Snape because I have him in mind but never really attempt to write him. I prefer to keep him in my head, I suppose, and, when I do write him, I get worried that I've fucked him up somehow. Ron is also one that is difficult but he also seems to be one that takes over when I do happen to write him and demands that everything be from his POV so he's getting easier as time goes by.
- Give us your epitaph.
Not that I'll have one since the whole being buried thing so isn't in my future but possibly something like "She was born. She lived. She laughed. She wrote porn. She died." Yeah, I'm pretty much not that creative!
