Take It Back by alloy Rated: FG13 - Family Guidance13 starstarstarstarstar [Reviews - 14]
Summary: Summer after the Order of the Phoenix. Ron Weasley's acting a bit weird.

"Could I have your telephone number?"

It took Hermione a moment to register what Ron had asked. He had asked it in a completely normal way; just an ordinary guy asking an ordinary girl for her contact details.

That was the problem, Ron Weasley was not an ordinary guy, he was a Wizard, from a long line, and large family of wizards.

i love these grangers!

so much love for arthur and ron and the batteries.

yay for getting this here at tqp.

Author's Response: ahhhh. harry potter meets the fockers....

Not for a couple of weeks yet...

Thanks for reviewing, Q! It's not the only reason I love ya, but it's one of 'em!

i really love how they appear differently in the different memories.  i think this is my favourite thing so far in this fic. and how they get to see how they are *seen*....

Q

Author's Response: I confess, I'm very proud of that! Thanks so much for noticing!

He laughed uncomfortably. "Well, yeah, sure, 'cause, you know, any girl who tells a short, near-sighted, skinny guy that he's like a godling out of legend is obviously to be trusted."

dear harry.

He imagined making love to Hermione, with Harry there, facing away, one hand brushing his back, Hermione's elbow, trying to make himself small, and not interfere, and the thought filled him with sadness.

i do like how you get ron's generous nature.

hermione's breakdown is beautifully handled. particularly her thoughts after they put her in the bath.

i'm enjoying reading this again.

Author's Response: Thanks very much, Q! It's great to know that this story survives, and maybe even re-pays re-readings. I must confess to having a somewhat masturbatory habit of re-reading my own stuff, but the pleasure I get is of authorship, and  it's good to know it gives you pleasure a second time around.

David leaned across the table to touch Harry's knee and Ron's. "Listen," he said, "I'm really sorry. Well, no I'm not, it was really funny, but I promise you both, I'm not angry."

*snort*

"Now, as long as we're around the subject anyway, let's talk about anal sex.

*snorts again* he's great.

Harry felt himself breathing an inner sigh of relief. He felt like he ought to resist the idea, or be upset, but it was sort of soothing, to be able to wait a bit.

this kind of reaction makes this whole scenario so much more believable. it pulls things back to the reality of what they're going through.

And suddenly they were normal people again

gorgeous line to end with.

Q

Author's Response: You know how much fun David Granger was for me to write. I'm so glad he's still fun for you to read as well. He's so cheerfully open, and such a loving father.

"Your parents are a bad influence, Hermione."

"it's three o'clock in the what-the-fuck-are-you-doing-up;"

ah ron. he's got such a way with words....

"Hell, even here, today, as quiet and diffident as he's been towards me... He carries a kind of, of moral authority, doesn't he?"

yes

"Daddy, we're fifteen. It's not like we were making lifetime commitments, you know." She sat a moment. "Unless you're them."

"I don't blame her, Daddy," said Ginny. "I just want to hex her so all her girl-parts close up or fall off."

Arthur's eyes widened. "I, er, I think that might perhaps be considered a little unkind, Ginny, dear."

i like ginny's feistiness, and the hint of bitterness.

and so much love for arthur (as always).

he's as understated as david granger is out there. but they are both protecting and guiding their kids the best they can.

Q

Author's Response: Ron's dialogue, sometimes, just pours out of me. I don't feel like Ican take credit for lines like "three o'clock in teh what-the-fuck-are-you-doing-up" because I don't feel I wrote it so much as transcribed it.

I was really concerned about writing Ginny, but when I got to her, I found her fun to write. She's so forthright and comfortable in her own skin, and, yes, quite feisty. (I was especially plesed with the second line of hers your quoted!)

I hadn't thought about the parallels between Arthur and David, but, Oh, yes! I want to see more of them interacting. Fortunately, it's my story, so I can!

Harry just grabbed them both in a desperate embrace, rubbing his forehead back and forth between Ron's collarbone and Hermione's shoulder, not sobbing, though he didn't quite know why he wasn't,

that line gets me every time.

"Probably because the idea of seeing you with Harry excites her, dear," said Jane. "More juice?"

more juice? it's a wonder they could eat at all!!!

"No, no," said his godfather. "The joke is, 'Are you fucking serious?' See, and then Remus says--"

teeheeee

loved all the stuff with the ghost writers!

while across the room, the parents who loved Dudley enough to die for him stood silent, frozen with fear of Remus Lupin's forefinger,

so understated, but it says everything you need it to.

great details with the renovations, and hermione's valiant efforts to get through to dudley.

great chapter, bud.

As Harry spoke, flowing orchestral music began to fill the room, romantic and richly melodic. Hermione would later tell him it was Tschaikovski's Romeo and Juliet.

"'Cause I really don't think I could get by--"

The music swelled, louder, now, and Dumbledore's voice said, quietly, gently, "Sirius..."

The music stopped at once.

*loves sirius*

"You're sorry!?" Hermione was livid. "Exactly what is this you've been keeping from us? Who are you, Harry?"

ha.

 the calm before the storm.......

some great moments.

Q

Author's Response: Goodness, Q, I didn't realize I hadn't responded to this!

Thank you so much for the good words. I really have fun with Sirius when he comes on the scene. Right now I'm writing "Chapter Ten" and he's flirting with Jane Granger -- playfully, just playfully! -- even as we speak.

Harry snickered. "What are we, then?"

Hermione stepped up and snuggled between them, her arms around their waists, "I don't know. But I like what we are. I like it a lot."

"So do I," said Ron, reaching down to give her bottom a little squeeze, and she was reminded for a moment of her Mum and Dad, the day before the inquest.

"Me too," said Harry, leaning in to kiss her, and suddenly Mum and Dad were gone, and she knew she was part of something very different, but just as loving. Just as wonderful. They were too young to be this, but this was what they were, now. A family.

i think that's what you're writing about here, yeah? it all comes back to that. Her areolae -- Hermione had taught them the word, taught them all the words

good on you, hermione.

can't say anymore about the rest than i've said already...

Q

Author's Response: Yes, this is so entirely about the trio as a new kind of family unit, about how love brings people together in new ways, about how, as long as there's love, those ways are all good. Was it Rudyard Kipling who wrote, There are nine and sixty ways of constucting tribal lays, and every single one of them is right!

If I can communicate nothing else in this story, I hope I can at least communicate that.

And, God, do I love a Hermione who brings her education to bed with her, and how hot is it that she teaches her boys while she's there? Oh, baby!

glanced over to see Ron's smile, warm and amused, at his friend's pleasure. He nodded to her, and her heart filled. Ron had so little, she knew, but his heart was so generous. He took almost as much pleasure in Harry's pleasure as his own

*loves ron*

As always, his kiss was both demanding and tentative, as if his tongue was somehow unable to believe its good fortune in finding hers, and determined to take as much pleasure as it could before it was caught and expelled. She let the kiss slowly end as she stroked him, then murmured, her lips still brushing his, "I love you, Harry."

And as simply as that, he came,

poor dear harry. and i love the descriptions of how they kiss.

a shining black pot, marked with painted white skeletons, which wailed and moaned, crying out, "Woe and peril! Woe and peril!"

that's such cute/clever little touch.

kreacher is just as spooky as the first time i read it. and dobby's mispronunciations are as endearing.

Q

Author's Response: Isn't that just so Ron, though? Isn't that just the kid in hand-me-down clothes, who gives a wealthy and famous wizard half of his sandwich, right off the bat?

I work very hard at showing, again and again, that there's a huge difference between loving Harry and loving Ron. The lick, the kiss, the touch, the wank, the hands, the fingers, the tongues, the willies. Hermione doesn't just have the same relationship twice. She has two whole loves.

I'm so glad you mentioned the skeletons! I loved that, and this right here is the first time anyone else has mentioned it.

Kreacher gave me the creeps, he really did. But DObby was a lot of fun.

Thanks so much for the kind words. Always appreciated.

Harry stared, wide-eyed, at his scowling godfather. His lips quivered as he spoke, trying to quash a smile. "Worship you, eh?"

Sirius glared at him. "Like a god."

love that whole exchange. great timing.

and yay for ron saving the day. WOOT! you go, ron.

Q

Author's Response: I rather like Remus' take on it, too: "Remus says I should be more understanding. After all, they don't think anything about me I didn't think in Seventh year!"

And isn't Smart!Ron just a lot more fun thad Stupid!Ron? I wish more ficcers got that!
