When I first came across this - it was recommended (somewhere!) a week or two ago - I was afraid that it would just be something of a smut-fest, something I wouldn't much like. How wrong I was! What an excellent story! A decent little plot - Harry's wound, and the problem of healing it - on which you could hang a wonderful portrayal of love between the three members of the Trio. And other bits and pieces - like Penny and the Weasley lunch - to keep things varied, preventing the blossoming feelings between the Three from becoming too bland or accepted by the reader.
Just a wonderful story. Thank you!
sorry to take so long to respond to this. i've been overseas and just got back.
thanks for your kind thoughts. i'm glad my little story worked for you. i love the trio so much.
i'd love to know where you saw it recommended.

I'm cranky, because I've been following your LJ for more than a year, yet this is the first time I've read this. I would have thought you would have mentioned this back in May when you published it here? Since it's pre-HBP mabye it's an oldie.
Anyway, fun story! I like the "go get 'em" feel of the tale, with Hermione at the helm - well, her and Rita - doing their bit against Tom. Quite a difference compared with DH, which overall dragged so horribly slowly, with Harry largely *reactive* - for all their supposed planning, not doing much unless he was prodded by an image from Voldemort or the like.
And I was pleased to be reminded of the energetic, fervant Harry-supporting Hermione of OotP here in your story; the girl who'd organised the DA now organising Rita's anti-DE campaign.
Of course Rita's success is somewhat optimistic; I'm sure that the wizarding world would have umpteen wards and charms to detect magic, animaguses/animagi and the like. But it was nice to think that Rita could be coaxed into working for the good guys, even if it was still largely via self-interest.
Author's Response: Hehe, this is one of my older stories, although I did write it post-HBP, I believe. I'm glad you enjoyed it; it was fun to write a bit of the "old" Hermione and it was especially fun to try and see if I could find a way to make Rita use her despicable side in the name of good. And I agree it would have been hard to show Rita continuing to have unqualified successes, and that's one of the reasons I wanted to end the story where I did. Thanks so much for taking the time to comment!

Hmmm. I received a notification for this story on Portkey, and looked it up just now to read and review, only found it gone. Do they have a minimum length limit?
A nice little drabble. I'm only too willing to accept a tag-along Ginny who occupies the 'love interest/wife' slot in Harry's life but who otherwise has no real significance, as that was exactly her function in canon. She was the supplier of firewhiskey kisses and other things that Harry - raised as he was, unknowing about love - defined as 'romance', but she was never privy to his innermost thoughts or goals or helped with same. Unlike our girl Hermione who stuck with him through dragons and giant snakes.
Sad, though, that Hermione would be so affected by Harry's problem, as you've depicted her here, and Harry so appreciative (unlike canon, thank you!!) ... but they're still apart romantically. :-(
Well, there's no rule that opposite-sex best friends who would 'go to the ends of the earth' for each other necessarily have to fall in love ... but it's darn satisfying reading when they do!
I demand a drabble sequel please :-) - one which has Harry actually helping Hermione with something (using his fame to push through legislation, if not actually *save* her like she did him). And maybe when their eyes lock again they can have a simultaneous epiphany ... with both red-heads in the vicinity totally oblivious. Oh well, just a thought. Thanks for putting the drabble up here.
No, Portkey doesn't have a minimum length requirement. But in searching and trying to verify that, I forgot that they do have a requirement that H/Hr cannot be broken apart. A mod pointed out that they'd almost certainly get complaints over that so I took it down.
It was just a scene that suddenly jumped into my head; how Hermione and Ginny would act differently in a crisis. I've toyed with the idea of creating a whole story around it, even having this be what drives the inevitable divorces. But it was also fun and a challenge to get as much packed into as few words as possible, like debating for the longest time about including "automatically"--Stephen King advises against adverbs and Rowling overuses them--before deciding that it was the quickest way to show that Harry's not really aware of Ginny at this point
